Can't Sleep.Current time, 1:14 a.m. which means the following statement is a little inaccurate seeing as 'today' is technically over and it is currently 'tomorrow,' but just go with me on this...

was my last day of class for my first year of medical school.
You heard it correct.
I've got Host and Defense finals on Thursday and Friday. A year end clinical medicine final in which I'll be checking in a patient and performing a history and physical on Tuesday and then a year-end comprehensive final (eek!) next Friday... and I'M DONE!
Come 2 weeks, done with year 1. Exit weekly exams, stress, and intensive academic load and enter summer of sun, fun, research (with the head of cardiothoracic surgery and my U's associated hospital, ahem), self-exploration, and much needed rest.

While today is certainly a day to remember, in all actuality I'd rather be sleeping. An unfortunate decision to caffeinate at 10 at night and attempt to cram in a study sesh post research gala has lended itself to insomnia, current destruction of diet (cereal, my late night weakness), and as you may guess--> blogging.
So, seeing as the eve's events have brought us together, let's take stock of things:
School:
Almost done with year 1!
*sorry, i know you know this... i just wanted to say it again :)*
Boys:
I'd love to tell you the sordid up and down tale of the boy who asked me to become f*ck buddies, but it's a little too fresh... perhaps another time, but for the record, I decline.
*For now I'm excited at the prospect of the new older guy I recently met--> 33 yo firefighter, air med EMT, pilot with his sailor's license who will soon be setting sail to the Bahamas... In the very least our dinner that is just a short plane ride away will be exciting.*
Bod:
Down another 5 lbs which means I've almost closed the gap on the not to be mentioned number of elle-bees I picked up last year during medical school application season.
*It seems application stress did not suit me near as much as study stress does. While applying induced me to eat mass amounts of ice-cream, the need to study motivates me to exercise... something I convince myself is a productive excuse to postpone said studying.*
Social:
The party girl has left the building and a homebody has taken her place. This is due in part to the number of out of town guests I've had visiting lately, the distaste for drinking I seem to acquire every spring that urges me to take an alcoholic hiatus, and the diet I've been trying to adhere to which excludes alcohol (and has been unsuccessful as of late due to aforementioned out of town guests and current late night cereal munching).
*Watching movies and baking have been a nice substitute to nights at the bar.*
Summer:
I've got a series of tentative plans. Not sure I'll follow through, but hey, a girl can dream right?
*Current items up for bid include: continuing diet and fitness regime (I'm maid of honor at my sister's upcoming wedding and I want to look my best), resuming guitar, experiments in cooking/gourmet goodness, a move (hopefully to a more exciting part of town with highschool bestie, Tori), subsequent decorating of new apartment, research (aka work), and potentially a volunteer trip abroad although my research requirement may eliminate that option.*
And well yeah... That's basically my life right now.
It's hard to believe I've made it through (well almost) year 1. There have definitely been some growing pains and lessons learned (ones that I'll hopefully find time to document later), but it's been a great year nonetheless.
And with that my friends (and a dose of nyquil) I bid you adieu. Wish me luck as I enter finals week. I'll be in touch.
