Exciting News.

Gals,
We have recently had a wave of fortune in the studio in the form of some new magazine shoots coming our way. There are 4 new publications on line to work with us in the near future and we are just stoked about this and really looking forward to sharing the pieces with you guys when they hit the shelves. Its funny how these things happen in waves.
In fact Ger and I were just conversing across the cutting table the other day about working on some marketing projects soon as we have been studio based for a good while now and its nice to shake it up a little now and again. Well, if she did........ literally within 12 hours of mouthing the word "marketing" we were approached by 4publications to work on some shoots soon.

I like to think that the "laws of attraction" are at play there and very much enjoy the message in the book " The Secret" , if you havn't read it yet its worth a read and a really nice way to look at things afterwards. It makes you look at your life through a different perspective.

Whilst we are on the subject of looking at things, I hope you guys enjoy the newest couture piece to hit the shop, Im loving the colors in this one and it reminded me so much of the Phantom of the Opera show on Broadway I just had to name it "Masquerade Corset"

By the Sea: Hawaii Family Portrait

A family from Georgia braved blustery wind to have their photos taken at Kailua Beach recently. They told us it was warmer in Georgia than it was in Hawaii! These Southern charmers were real troupers and had a good time no matter what the weather.

New Arrivals!!

Gals,
We finally got a chance to get outdoors today for a time and take a few pictures of the newest pieces to hit the shop. Of course it was raining and dull but we managed to run in and out of the studio between black clouds to get a couple of much needed new snaps.
Heres the first piece in stock.....
Available now in the shop.

Kailua wedding: Meagan and Kirk testimonial

Thank you so much for helping capture our wedding in such incredible pictures. I just finished looking through them and they are fabulous! I have been so impressed with your work, professionalism and expertise that I am just blown away! Grant (my son) is a total ham in front of any lens and you captured it perfectly. You also captured my favorite moment of the entire day...the look on my groom's face as he saw me for the first time, PRICELESS!!

Even though the lighting wasn't perfect and the wind was blowing, you got some of the most incredible colors in those shots! The bright blues and greens in the background really set the scene, and the bridal party colors really blended well. I could not be more pleased! Thank you again - they are wonderful!

Sincerely,
Kirk, Meagan and Grant

I just can't thank the two of you enough! We received the disc in the mail yesterday, and the photos are just amazing! We could not be happier with how they turned out (and I can't stop looking at them)! Thank you again for capturing all the love, emotion and happiness of our wedding day. You are an incredibly talented couple!

Sincerely,
Meagan

Squawk Like A Pirate

I've got mixed feelings about the jail terms and fines passed by the Swedish courts on the operators of the Pirate Bay filesharing setup. I'd have more sympathy over the sentencing if the guys in question weren't such clanging assholes.

Piracy is, by its very definition, a parasitic act, and the successful parasite is the one that doesn't damage the health of its host. The parasite that taunts, defies, derides and generally abuses what it feeds on is an evolutionary dead end. If you cause pain when you feed, you'll get swatted. If you dance around, hooting and flicking V's, you can be sure you'll get swatted first.

And a kind of evolution is surely what's happening here. Not so much in movies, where the ripping and redistribution of DVDs is hard to defend as anything other than freeloading. But with TV... and TV drama especially... I believe the pirates have set up a genuine model for the future. It's really just a question of the industry catching on to the fact that, just as the pirates stole product from them, they can now steal something back in the form of some free R&D.

Broadcast TV is only good for soaps, news and reality now - background stuff, stuff you can keep one eye on while you do something else, stuff you can dip in and out of, stuff you can talk through. The truly ephemeral stuff with a 24-hour shelf life, or no shelf life at all.

Drama, being immersive in its nature, struggles to thrive in that environment. And, sure enough, it isn't thriving. Even the best dramas don't get ratings these days, because no one wants to settle in for that long, or focus that much, at a time that doesn't necessarily suit them. There's always going to be an appetite for TV drama, but people have definitely lost their taste for being scheduled.

A few short years ago, I can remember celebrating because ITV shifted News at Ten and made all of its nine o'clock dramas ninety minutes long. As a writer I thought that it was going to be a great move - every script would be a feature!

But I was wrong, and it wasn't great. As a viewer, I hated it. Even the slightest story had to be a seven-act marathon. Night after night after night. Imagine if every single meal had to be Christmas f***ing dinner in five courses. The only person who'd be happy would be that mad guy who shows up on the news each December for celebrating Christmas every day (and, frankly, I'm beginning to think he only does it for the attention).

Imagine if the pirates' distribution model was the legitimate one. It's already open to all, but finding and downloading material requires a smidgen of geekiness that excludes the majority. Imagine a global TV market, with fresh product coming in all the time, and with a legal, user-friendly, micropayment-driven interface where you'd pick your shows from a searchable menu and download them to watch, ads-free, at a time of your own convenience. A new season of House begins... you buy it from the source, right away, for buttons. What's not to like?

That's how it's got to go, I reckon. I'd tolerate a sponsored logo or watermark in the corner of the screen, if that were the only way to monetise the copying and passing-on of downloaded files. But the point of micropayments is to make it all too cheap to bother. I reckon that network TV showings will serve the same function that used to be served by hardcover publication in the book trade, where the hardback would sell very few copies but give the book a profile which would pay off in the paperback edition. Indie stuff will be offered straight to market, with no network involvement at all, and live or die by its merits.

You know, once I would have thought it scary. That the reliable, steady stream of broadcast product from the BBC or my regional ITV station might not always be a part of my life. That it might be replaced by a mosaic of my own choices, continually refreshed and revised. But now I can't wait.

And at last we'll be spared the apologists for piracy, with all their talk of Fat Cats and corporate greed and how much they're being ripped off.

For that alone, roll on the future.

By the Sea: Hawaii Lifestyle Photography

Newlyweds requested couple portraits (including a few photos with Jesse, their playful chocolate Lab) at their home on the North Shore of Oahu. They told us that they didn't have a proper wedding so they have no good wedding  photographs. The couple's parents were asking for photos so they decided to invest in our By the Sea lifestyle session. The weather was overcast when we started the photography but the clouds parted for a nice Hawaii sunset.

Birthday Roadtrip.

Gals,
Im so excited to be hitting the road tomorrow morning for a wee Birthday getaway with my partner. It feels like an age since I had a break and a getaway and we are heading for Killarney, one of our favourite destinations. ( well New York was booked out, what can I say. lol )

As Ger is the more organised of us both I was handed a bag of girlie goodies today that I would never even think of until its too late, loads of face scrubs, hair treats , the works and of course a bottle of wine with a bottle opener attached! I laughed at this last one as only Ger would know that I would take a bottle of wine with me on a trip and forget an opening operatus! :)

Its funny when you work along side a family member they actually come to know you better than you know yourself!

I also received a really special gift from one of my gal pals on etsy, simplysusan. Its such a lovely feeling to open a personal gift and handmade card from a friend I met online on the other side of the world. We have met some really amazing friends through the etsy community and Im always blown away by the kindness and caring nature of all the gals on there.

Back in a couple of days gals, hoping to see more of the above pictured on the journey. ( picture taken of a local castle ruin by my dad.
missing you already gals. :)
I shall be 28 when I get home, eek!

Kailua Wedding: Meagan and Kirk

This post has more images than usual thanks to Meagan's 5-year-old son, Grant! He is so cute - we couldn't help but take a lot of photos of him. The couple and Grant traveled from snowy Idaho to have their destination wedding at a friend's oceanfront home on Kailua Beach during spring break. The windy overcast weather did not dampen the spirits of anyone at this joyful celebration. At the reception, the bride's niece danced the hula and the officiant and his wife, friends of the couple, sang the Hawaiian Wedding Song beautifully.
